This page explains what information OverKill Simulations collects when you use overkillsimulations.com and HangarControl, why, and what you can do about it. Short version: I only collect what it takes to sell you the software, deliver it, keep your license working and fix problems. I don't sell your information and I don't use it for advertising.
What we collect and why
Your account
When you create an account or buy HangarControl, we store your email address, username, and your name if you give it. Your password is stored scrambled (hashed), so nobody, including us, can read it. We use this to let you log in, download HangarControl, see your purchases and manage your license.
Purchases
Payments are handled by Stripe. Your card details go straight to Stripe and never touch our site. We receive your name, email, what you bought, the amount and the order date, which we keep for your purchase history and for tax and accounting records. Stripe's own privacy policy is at stripe.com/privacy.
License and activation
When you activate HangarControl or start a trial, the app sends your license key or email along with a device ID. The device ID is a one way code generated from your Windows installation. It can't be turned back into your name, computer name or anything else. It lets us count how many computers a license is activated on and keep track of trials.
Crash reports and log files
HangarControl only sends crash reports or logs if you choose to: either by clicking Send Logs to Developer, or by turning on automatic crash reports in the app's logging settings (off by default). A report contains the error details, recent HangarControl log lines, your HangarControl and Windows versions, and your computer's name. Before logs are saved, HangarControl replaces your Windows username, computer name and any email addresses inside the log text with placeholders. If you add your email to a report, we use it only to follow up with you about that problem. We use reports only to find and fix bugs.
Emails
We send account emails, purchase receipts and license information, and we reply to support emails you send us. Emails are sent through Google (Gmail). We don't send marketing emails.
The website itself
The site is hosted by Kinsta. Like any website, the servers record basic connection details such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you request, for security and to keep the site running. This also applies when HangarControl connects to our site to activate a license, check a trial or check for updates.
Cookies
The site uses cookies that it needs to work: keeping you logged in, remembering your cart and running checkout. Stripe sets its own cookies during checkout to prevent fraud. Some pages include embedded YouTube videos, and YouTube may set its own cookies when those pages load or the video plays.
Links to other sites
We link to Discord, YouTube, Patreon, X, Facebook and Twitch. Once you're on those sites, their privacy policies apply, not this one.
